n. the most westerly of the Northwest Territories (def. 2b), named after the explorer Alexander Mackenzie, 1764-1820.
- 1883  His lot was cast in the far-off Mackenzie district, and here he gained his acquaintance with the fur trade and the company's affairs, so useful to him in his after career.
- 1953  It is my belief that many measures could be introduced by the Federal Government, through the Northwest Territories Administration, which would better the lot of the residents of Mackenzie.
- 1966  The rapidly increasing pace of development in the Northwest Territories, especially in the Mackenzie District, now began to suggest even more fundamental changes in the structure of Territorial government.
